Tongue Tied

Ankylosglossia (tongue-tied): having restricted range of motion of the tongue or being the antithesis of Gene Simmons ▪️

Millions of people are silent sufferers of having a short frenum or a tight pull on the base of their tongues. This can range from mild to severe and can even result in malnutrition due to difficulty in eating. Being tongue tied can affect breastfeeding, speech development, licking ice cream, talking for long periods of time, digestion and kissing!

The good news is that there are several ways to treat this condition:

•Frenectomy-snipping the frenum with either a sterile scissor or a diode laser. This area is easy to numb, takes only moments to do and heals fast! •Frenuloplasty-repositioning or alteration of the frenulum using a similar method if the frenum is too thick for a simple frenectomy or if repair is needed. A suture is placed that usually resorbs.
